Meta Schmitz
CBRS/Case Manager
Meta is a seasoned Mental Health Professional and Behavior Interventionist whose career is driven by a deep-seated mission to ensure that no individual ever feels so depleted that they have nothing, and that no child ever feels alone or ill-equipped to handle life's challenges. She believes that providing the right coping skills at the right time can change the trajectory of a person's life.
Meta earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with minors in Sociology and Criminology, from Southwest Texas State University in 2001. Her professional journey began with a rigorous focus on clinical research at the San Antonio State Hospital and the UT Health Science Center. Over a two-year period, she contributed to three significant studies: the effects of Olanzapine on Schizophrenia, the efficacy of Group Cognitive Therapy on Depression, and the impact of Cultural Competency in psychological testing. This clinical background provides her with a data-driven foundation for the empathetic, client-centered care she delivers today.
Since joining the RHS team in 2017, Meta has focused heavily on Community-Based Rehabilitation Services (CBRS). While she works with both children and adults, she has a special place in her heart for children, who often make up the majority of her caseload. Meta is passionate about teaching the essential life skills—such as effective communication and problem-solving—that empower individuals to overcome obstacles and become independent members of society.
To further her expertise, Meta expanded her clinical toolkit at another organization where she earned several specialized certifications and roles, including:
Certified Recovery Coach
Targeted Service Coordinator for Children
OSSM and I-CANS Assessment Specialist
Authorization and Treatment Plan Writer
Meta then went on to complete a one-year tenure working with Medicaid, which provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the administrative and systemic side of healthcare. Meta then returned to RHS. She considers RHS her true professional home and is deeply happy to be back serving her community there.
Currently, Meta serves as a full-time Behavior Interventionist within the school system, where she works daily to ensure students have the support and coping mechanisms they need to succeed. Even with her school commitments, she remains a fierce advocate for her RHS clients, coordinating with healthcare professionals and community agencies to ensure a seamless continuity of care.
Meta’s compassion extends to all living things; she is an avid animal lover who spends her personal time in raptor and small mammal rehabilitation and animal training. An adventurer at heart, she also enjoys skydiving, scuba diving, wakeboarding, and roller skating, and she treasures traveling and exploring the world with her family.
